Equity-minded mentoring toolkit

Mentoring relationships are critical to scholarly identity development and sense of belonging for graduate students, but the benefits of mentoring can often vary in inequitable ways across social identities such as race, class, and gender. This new toolkit was designed to be a resource for mentors and mentees that are interested in developing equity-minded mentoring relationships.

The Equity in Graduate Education Resource Center conducts and translates research that is inspired by community needs. We offer high-quality, evidence-based professional development and a learning community that provides faculty and administrators with tools and resources to create and sustain institutional change.

A third of college graduates today go on to pursue graduate education. Graduate programs develop tomorrow’s faculty and many of society’s leaders, so addressing inequities in graduate education has ripple effects throughout higher education and society. We are focused on examining and improving institutional policy and practice, with special attention to the work of faculty and others whose work touches graduate students.

Our work facilitates a cycle of theory and practice, and we have been recognized for both rigorous research and supporting individual and organizational learning. We work in partnership with major universities and disciplinary societies to improve systems for selecting and serving students. Our team is committed to reducing barriers and creating more inclusive educational environments.
